EXECUTIVE MAYOR HANDS OVER COMPLETED WATER PROJECT AT PHUGWANI

The Executive Mayor of Vhembe District Municipality Cllr. Miyelani Chauke has officially handed over a completed water project to the Phugwani community marking an important intervention in addressing the area’s longstanding water supply challenges.

The community had been experiencing unreliable access to water, prompting the municipality to undertake infrastructure improvements aimed at strengthening water supply and improving access to this essential service.

The scope of work included the drilling of a new borehole, testing of borehole yield and water quality for both boreholes and the compilation of a technical report. The project further involved equipping the boreholes in accordance with the recommendations of the report, construction of a precast concrete pump house, and installation of pressure gauges, flow meters and control valves. Other works included the construction of a 2km rising main using 75mm UPVC Class 12 pipes, refurbishment of the concrete reservoir and steel tank, electrification of the boreholes and installation of borehole identification tags containing relevant information. The project also entailed the construction of air valves, unblocking and repair of the existing water reticulation network, as well as the supply and installation of five standpipes to improve access to water within the community.

The Executive Mayor cautioned community members against illegal water connections, emphasising the importance of protecting municipal water infrastructure and using water responsibly to ensure a sustainable supply for all beneficiaries.

The Executive Mayor was accompanied by the MMC for Finance, Cllr. Faith Chauke; MMC Cllr. Maria Mamedzi and Ward Councillor Terrance Chauke.
